Central West Ballet Company and School

 

In 1987, a young talented ballet teacher, Gretchen Volgelzang, took on the pioneering job of establishing a ballet company for the city of Modesto. Central West Ballet, as it is known today, will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2007. Central West ballet is here to stay, to grow along with the families of this community and to celebrate the unique qualities of this friendly city.

Formerly Bravo! Repertory Dance Theatre, the company quickly developed into a full-service ballet company after staging its first full length Nutcracker in 1989. Since then, other classics and contemporary creations have been added to the repertoire.

With its founding Artistic Director, Gretchen Volgelzang, Central West Ballet became an honored company in the Regional Dance America National Association (RDA).

Since 2004, the company has been lead by René Daveluy as its Artistic Director and by Leslie Ann Larson as its Ballet Mistress, Both former professional dancers with Ballet West in Salt Lake City.
